President’s Corner

Message from the President:

Hope all of our members had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. 2011 saw some amazing things happen at Aurora Turner, namely improvements to our POS system, a new data base for membership, new process for membership renewals (done in house), hosting of the 2011 American Turners National Festival (which included National softball and Golf, a first ever), creation of a Aurora Turner Scholarship program (three scholarships were awarded) and last but not least Aurora Turners held everything in check and keep our finances sound.

What will 2012 bring? We did finish last year with some projects that were not completed namely, resolving some issues with our new carpet, getting our POS system completely functional, upgrading our door key system (nothing that members need to do at this time), improvements to our kitchen menu’s, replace and/or repair our parking lots and re-seal them, add some stairs and improve the drive to the ball field, and probably the number one thing is to generate more foot traffic in the club.

We have about 3000 members and a good bulk of them rarely use the club and the board is going to try and figure out why and try and encourage these members to come to the club. We do know that family events, i.e. Family Pizza Night, seem to draw more people to the club and I would hope that the Board can create some new Family type of events. If anyone has any ideas along this line please let the office or my self know.

Volunteer’s, or should I say lack of has not helped this past year. Were some of our events had plenty some had few, and by few I mean one or two. This year with the membership renewal we sent out a “We Need Your Help” sheet with your annual dues statement. Please, please, please take the time to fill this out and return it with your dues. If you forgot to do this when you renewed your dues, another “We Need Your Help” will be included when you get your 2012 membership card.

Remember that your 2012 membership dues must be paid at the club or postmarked by January 31, 2012. If you have paid your 2012 dues and have not received them yet, we have our computer with the door key system crash and were not able to issue new door keys. We should have this resolved shortly so please be patient. You may call the office and ask if your dues have been received and they can give you the status of your dues.

The Aurora Turner’s new letter will go back to a two-month issue for the next eight months, with issues scheduled as January/February, March/April, May/June, July/August, September, October, November and December.

One activity for January is the Illinois District Convention being hosted by Chicago NW. It will be on Sunday, January 29, 2012. This year will also be the Bi-annual American Turner National Convention. It will be held at Akron Turners on August 17 and 18. In order to be a delegate for this convention you MUST be elected at our District Convention on January 29, 2012. Please take the time to go and visit with other Turners from our District. Sign-up sheet at club by ATM machine.

WTG,
Craig Sniezek
President
